Training that fits a Carmel Valley week

Carmel Valley is a commuter suburb with a youth sports calendar bolted to it. Most of the people we train here spend the day at a desk in the office and research corridor to the south, then spend the evening driving. A gym across town is the first thing that gets dropped from that schedule, and it usually gets dropped in February. In-home training removes the trip. From $300 per visit, Martin comes to the house and works with the garage, the bonus room, or the patio, and brings whatever the program needs that you do not already have.

The desk is the other half of it. Long seated days leave hips stiff, the mid-back locked up and the shoulders rolled forward, and that shows up as a cranky low back long before anyone would call it an injury. So we start with an assessment: how you stand, how you breathe, how you hinge, squat and reach overhead. The program is built off that and progressed on a schedule your real week can hold. Virtual coaching at $350 a month keeps it running through travel weeks, and the Bankers Hill studio is $150 a session if you want to train in town.

Martin’s methodology is a fully custom Performance Training Center system — applied exercise science, structural assessment, and Feldenkrais somatic methodology integrated into every program. This integrated approach is built to develop durable strength, body composition, and movement quality.

Our Integrated Training System

Our approach combines four disciplines into one continuous program — built for clients who want a comprehensive, science-grounded system.

Strength & Conditioning

Progressive overload, periodization, and motor-pattern development grounded in NSCA-aligned principles. Programs are calibrated to your training age, neuromuscular capacity, and recovery profile — driving measurable gains in strength, power, and movement quality.

Sports Nutrition

Macros, meal timing, and supplementation engineered to your performance goals — fat loss, muscle gain, recovery, and energy. Built on evidence-based sports nutrition science and personalized to your physiology.

Somatic Movement Education

Movement re-education drawing on the movement teachings of Moshé Feldenkrais, focused on the compensation patterns left behind by old injuries — with the goal of rebuilding neuromuscular function and movement confidence.

Functional Health Assessment

Functional lab testing — microbiome panels, hormonal markers, and food sensitivity screening — for clients whose progress has plateaued and who want more data behind their nutrition and training plan.

Who We Train

All ages and abilities. Carmel Valley brings us three regulars: the desk-bound parent whose back has started complaining, the client cleared by a physical therapist and left without a next step, and the household training around a teenager in season.

All Ages and Levels

From young professionals to retired athletes — we engineer customized personal training programs around your goals, your physiology, and the time you have. Whether you’re chasing strength gains, building longevity, or working back from a long break, the program meets you where you are.

Post-Surgery & Post-Rehab Clients

Cleared by your physical therapist but not yet back to full function. Our somatic movement education plus structured strength and conditioning picks up where clinical care ends. We have worked with clients post-ACL reconstruction, post-rotator cuff repair, post-spinal procedures, and post-hip and knee replacements — with the goal of rebuilding strength and movement quality.

Desk Athletes, Golfers, and Teenagers in Season

Looking for 15-20 yards more carry, sub-3 handicap progress, or the strength base to keep playing the sport you love into your 60s and beyond. We train Golf-Specific Strengthening with TPI-grounded methodology — relevant for Carmel Valley biotech leaders from Pfizer, Bristol Myers Squibb, and Illumina — plus Pacific Highlands Ranch professionals and families.

In-home across Carmel Valley, studio in Bankers Hill

In-home training comes to you. PTC trains in homes from Downtown San Diego to Rancho Santa Fe, which takes in Carmel Valley, Pacific Highlands Ranch, Del Mar Mesa and Torrey Hills. You provide the space, and in most houses here that means a garage, a bonus room, or a patio. Whatever equipment is already there gets used, and anything the program needs that the house does not have, Martin brings.

The studio is at 440 Upas Street, Unit 104, in Bankers Hill, one block from Balboa Park. It is a private room built for one-on-one work, with street parking on Upas. From Carmel Valley it is a drive, so most clients use it for the first assessment and train at home after that.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far is the studio from Carmel Valley?

The studio is at 440 Upas Street, Unit 104 in Bankers Hill, a block from Balboa Park, and from Carmel Valley it is a drive. That is why in-home training is the normal arrangement here. Many clients come down once for the assessment and then train at home. If your commute already takes you south, a studio session on the way home can work; otherwise we come to you.

Do you offer in-home personal training in Carmel Valley?

Yes. In-home training is available across Carmel Valley, Pacific Highlands Ranch, Del Mar Mesa, and Torrey Hills. Sessions work with whatever home gym setup you have, your bodyweight, or outdoor space — many Carmel Valley clients alternate between in-home morning sessions before work and studio sessions on weekends.

Do you offer one-on-one personal training, or only group sessions?

One-on-one is our primary model. Every session is part of a customized personal training program built for the individual based on your assessment, your goals, and where you are that week. We also offer small-group training (2-4 people, typically family or close-friend pairs) for clients who prefer it.

How long are training sessions?

60 minutes for standard sessions. Initial consultations are 30 minutes — we walk through your goals, your current fitness baseline, your injury history, and whether our methodology is the right fit for you. Most clients book a follow-up assessment session afterward.

I just had surgery and was cleared by my physical therapist. Can you help me get back to full function?

Yes — this is a large part of what we do. Somatic movement education plus progressive strength and conditioning is built to pick up where clinical care ends, once your physical therapist has cleared you. We’ve worked with clients post-ACL reconstruction, post-rotator cuff repair, post-spinal procedures, and post-hip and knee replacements. We coordinate with your surgeon and PT when relevant. Performance Training Center is a performance-training studio, not a medical or physical-therapy clinic. We don’t diagnose, treat, or rehabilitate injuries or medical conditions.

What strength and conditioning principles do you use?

Programs are built on evidence-based exercise science — progressive overload, periodization (linear, undulating, or block depending on your goals), neural-drive development, and biomechanically-precise movement patterning. We follow NSCA-aligned principles and calibrate every loading decision to your training age, neuromuscular capacity, and recovery profile.

Do you take insurance?

We’re a private personal training studio, not a medical clinic. We don’t bill insurance. Sessions are paid out-of-pocket, but we provide FSA/HSA-eligible documentation for sessions related to post-surgical rehabilitation when applicable.

What’s your cancellation policy?

Sessions cancelled with 24 hours’ notice are rescheduled at no charge. Less than 24 hours and the session is forfeit. Packages are non-refundable but transferable to a friend or family member.

How quickly will I see results?

Individual results vary based on ability, program intensity, recovery, and individual adherence. The clients who get the most out of training are honest with us about nutrition, sleep, and life stress — those factors drive the majority of outcomes alongside the training itself.

What does pricing look like?

In-home training in Carmel Valley starts at $300 per visit, with the final rate based on travel time. Virtual coaching is $350 per month. Studio sessions in Bankers Hill are $150, the same rate for one session or a package. Metabolomics testing is $599 if you want lab data behind the nutrition plan. View full rates.

Are you taking new clients right now?

We accept a limited number of new clients each month to maintain coaching quality. The best first step is the free BMR calculator + 30-minute consultation — that’s how we determine whether you’re a fit for our current openings. Reach out and we’ll let you know what’s available.
