Personal Trainer in Del Mar — Performance Training Center
Personal Trainer in Del Mar
One-on-one training in your own home in Del Mar. The studio is in Bankers Hill, which is a real drive from the coast, so most Del Mar clients have the coach come to them instead.
How training works when you live in Del Mar
Del Mar runs on a commute and a practice schedule. The people we train here drive south for work in the morning, get a kid across town in the evening, and try to find an hour in between that does not disappear the first week something goes wrong. The hour that survives is usually the one that happens at home, which is why in-home training is the main way we work with Del Mar clients. Sessions start at $300 per visit and Martin brings what the program needs. A garage rack, a spare room, a patio, or clear floor space and your own bodyweight all work.
The second option is the studio at 440 Upas Street at $175 a session, and it is worth one trip at the start for a full assessment. After that you can train at home and come in only when you are already headed into the city. If you are away for weeks at a time, Assessment & Program Design at $899 per cycle is the better fit: a short phone interview, an hour-long in-person assessment, a 90-minute walkthrough of the program, then a five-minute check-in each week while you run it. If you are away for weeks at a time, Assessment & Program Design at $899 per cycle is the better fit: a short phone interview, an hour-long in-person assessment, a 90-minute walkthrough of the program, then a five-minute check-in each week while you run it. We are not going to tell you the drive is short. It is not, and you should not have to make it to train well.
Martin’s methodology is a fully custom Performance Training Center system — applied exercise science, structural assessment, and Feldenkrais somatic methodology integrated into every program. This integrated approach is built to develop durable strength, body composition, and movement quality.
Our Integrated Training System
Our approach combines four disciplines into one continuous program — built for clients who want a comprehensive, science-grounded system.
Strength & Conditioning
Progressive overload, periodization, and motor-pattern development grounded in NSCA-aligned principles. Programs are calibrated to your training age, neuromuscular capacity, and recovery profile — driving measurable gains in strength, power, and movement quality.
Sports Nutrition
Macros, meal timing, and supplementation engineered to your performance goals — fat loss, muscle gain, recovery, and energy. Built on evidence-based sports nutrition science and personalized to your physiology.
Somatic Movement Education
Movement re-education drawing on the movement teachings of Moshé Feldenkrais, focused on the compensation patterns left behind by old injuries — with the goal of rebuilding neuromuscular function and movement confidence.
Functional Health Assessment
Functional lab testing — microbiome panels, hormonal markers, and food sensitivity screening — for clients whose progress has plateaued and who want more data behind their nutrition and training plan.
What Del Mar clients actually book
Who We Train
All ages and abilities. In Del Mar households the call usually comes from one of three people: a parent fitting training between a commute and a pickup, someone cleared by a physical therapist and rebuilding after surgery, or a golfer who wants to still be swinging well at seventy.
All Ages and Levels
From young professionals to retired athletes — we engineer customized personal training programs around your goals, your physiology, and the time you have. Whether you’re chasing strength gains, building longevity, or working back from a long break, the program meets you where you are.
Post-Surgery & Post-Rehab Clients
Cleared by your physical therapist but not yet back to full function. Our somatic movement education plus structured strength and conditioning picks up where clinical care ends. We have worked with clients post-ACL reconstruction, post-rotator cuff repair, post-spinal procedures, and post-hip and knee replacements — with the goal of rebuilding strength and movement quality.
Golfers, Masters Athletes, and Kids Who Compete
Looking for 15-20 yards more carry, sub-3 handicap progress, or the strength base to keep playing the sport you love into your 60s and beyond. We train Golf-Specific Strengthening with TPI-grounded methodology — relevant for Del Mar Country Club members, North County executives, and coastal clients ready to invest in long-term training.

In-home across Del Mar, studio in Bankers Hill
In-home training comes to you. PTC trains in homes from Downtown San Diego to Rancho Santa Fe, and Del Mar sits inside that range along with Solana Beach and Carmel Valley. You provide the space. A garage gym, a patio, a cleared living room, or a stretch of yard is enough, and the program gets written around what is actually there rather than around equipment you would have to go buy.
The studio is at 440 Upas Street, Unit 104, in Bankers Hill, one block from Balboa Park. It is one private room set up for one-on-one coaching, with street parking on Upas. From Del Mar it is a drive, so most clients use it for the first assessment and then train at home, keeping the odd studio session for a day they are already in the city.

Frequently Asked Questions
How far is the studio from Del Mar?
The studio is at 440 Upas Street, Unit 104 in Bankers Hill, a block from Balboa Park. From Del Mar that is a genuine drive, which is exactly why in-home training is how most Del Mar clients work with us. If you want to see the studio, one trip at the start for the assessment is usually all it takes, and after that we come to you.
Do you offer in-home personal training in Del Mar?
Yes, and it is the option we lead with here. In-home training starts at $300 per visit and covers Del Mar, Solana Beach, Carmel Valley and the surrounding coast. You do not need a home gym. Plenty of Del Mar sessions run in a garage, on a patio, or in a cleared front room with what Martin brings, and if you do have equipment we will use it. The final rate depends on travel time.
Do you offer one-on-one personal training, or only group sessions?
One-on-one is our primary model. Every session is part of a customized personal training program built for the individual based on your assessment, your goals, and where you are that week. We also offer small-group training (2-4 people, typically family or close-friend pairs) for clients who prefer it.
How long are training sessions?
60 minutes for standard sessions. Initial consultations are 30 minutes — we walk through your goals, your current fitness baseline, your injury history, and whether our methodology is the right fit for you. Most clients book a follow-up assessment session afterward.
I just had surgery and was cleared by my physical therapist. Can you help me get back to full function?
Yes — this is a large part of what we do. Somatic movement education plus progressive strength and conditioning is built to pick up where clinical care ends, once your physical therapist has cleared you. We’ve worked with clients post-ACL reconstruction, post-rotator cuff repair, post-spinal procedures, and post-hip and knee replacements. We coordinate with your surgeon and PT when relevant. Performance Training Center is a performance-training studio, not a medical or physical-therapy clinic. We don’t diagnose, treat, or rehabilitate injuries or medical conditions.
What strength and conditioning principles do you use?
Programs are built on evidence-based exercise science — progressive overload, periodization (linear, undulating, or block depending on your goals), neural-drive development, and biomechanically-precise movement patterning. We follow NSCA-aligned principles and calibrate every loading decision to your training age, neuromuscular capacity, and recovery profile.
Do you take insurance?
We’re a private personal training studio, not a medical clinic. We don’t bill insurance. Sessions are paid out-of-pocket, but we provide FSA/HSA-eligible documentation for sessions related to post-surgical rehabilitation when applicable.
What’s your cancellation policy?
Sessions cancelled with 24 hours’ notice are rescheduled at no charge. Less than 24 hours and the session is forfeit. Packages are non-refundable but transferable to a friend or family member.
How quickly will I see results?
Individual results vary based on ability, program intensity, recovery, and individual adherence. The clients who get the most out of training are honest with us about nutrition, sleep, and life stress — those factors drive the majority of outcomes alongside the training itself.
What does pricing look like?
In-home training in Del Mar starts at $300 per visit, with the final rate set by travel time. Assessment & Program Design is $899 per cycle. Studio sessions in Bankers Hill are $175, the same whether you buy one or a package. Metabolomics testing, if you want lab data behind the nutrition side, is $799. View full rates.
Are you taking new clients right now?
We accept a limited number of new clients each month to maintain coaching quality. The best first step is the free BMR calculator + 30-minute consultation — that’s how we determine whether you’re a fit for our current openings. Reach out and we’ll let you know what’s available.
