Personal Trainer in Mission Valley — Performance Training Center
Personal Trainer in Mission Valley
One-on-one coaching for people who work, live, or commute through the valley. Sessions come to your condo, your house, or your building’s fitness room, with virtual coaching between visits and the private Bankers Hill studio when you want the full setup.
Strength, Nutrition, and Recovery — Built on Science
Mission Valley is a floor full of offices, hotels, and new apartment towers, and most of the people who train with us here spend the bulk of the day sitting: desk, car, couch. That pattern does something specific to a body. Hips shorten, the mid-back stops rotating, the glutes go quiet, and the shoulders roll forward. You feel it as stiffness and low energy long before it shows up as an injury.
So we start by looking, not lifting. The first session is an assessment: posture, breathing, how your hips and mid-back move, how you sleep, and what you actually eat on a Tuesday. The program comes out of that. Every loading decision — sets, reps, tempo, rest, range of motion — is set from where you are now and progressed as that changes.
The other pattern here is the building gym. A lot of valley apartment and condo complexes have a fitness room, and a lot of people have been going down to it three times a week for two years without getting any stronger. A few machines and a treadmill are not a program. If you have that room downstairs, we can build something real inside its limits, and that is a good deal of what in-home training looks like in this part of the city.
Our Integrated Training System
Four disciplines, one program. Which of them leads depends on whether you are trying to get stronger, get out of pain, or work out why nothing has moved in a year.
Strength & Conditioning
Progressive overload and periodization built around a working calendar. Enough volume to change something, structured so it survives a week with two late meetings and a flight out on Thursday.
Sports Nutrition
Macros, meal timing, and supplementation set against how you really eat: lunch bought out, dinner late, coffee doing more work than it should. A plan that ignores a commuter’s day does not survive one.
Somatic Movement Education
Movement re-education drawing on the teachings of Moshé Feldenkrais, aimed at the compensation patterns old injuries leave behind, and at the ones a decade of sitting builds all on its own.
Functional Health Assessment
Microbiome panels, hormonal markers, and food sensitivity screening for clients who have stalled and want data before the next guess. Metabolomics testing is $599.
Services for Mission Valley Clients
Who We Train
All ages and abilities. Three profiles come up most often in the valley:
Desk-Bound Professionals
You are in front of a screen most of the day and you know it is costing you something. It usually shows up as a stiff low back, a neck that aches by Thursday, and a body that tires faster than it used to. More cardio does not fix it. Loading the tissue that has gone quiet and getting the hips and mid-back moving again does.
Post-Surgery & Post-Rehab Clients
Cleared by your physical therapist and still short of full function. We pick up where clinical care ends, pairing somatic movement work with progressive loading. We have trained clients after ACL reconstruction, rotator cuff repair, spinal procedures, and hip and knee replacements. Performance Training Center is not a clinic and does not diagnose, treat, or rehabilitate injuries or medical conditions.
Plateaued Gym Regulars
You have been going to the building gym or a big club for years and nothing has changed. Usually the program is the problem: same machines, same weight, no progression, no assessment behind any of it. Sometimes it is nutrition or recovery instead, and when the training is right and the needle still will not move, functional testing tells us where to look next.

Studio & Location
Performance Training Center is at 440 Upas Street, Unit 104, in Bankers Hill, one block from Balboa Park. From Mission Valley that is a drive south out of the valley — easy outside the commute, less fun inside it, which is why valley clients who use the studio tend to book early mornings or midday. Street parking on Upas. The studio is private, one client at a time.
For a lot of valley clients, in-home is the better answer. PTC’s in-home service area runs from Downtown San Diego to Rancho Santa Fe, so sessions come to your condo, your house, or the fitness room downstairs, and the program is written for what is actually in the room. In-home starts at $300 per visit. Virtual coaching is $350 per month for weeks when work or travel rules out everything else.

Frequently Asked Questions
Should I come to the studio or train at home?
It depends on your week. The studio is at 440 Upas Street, Unit 104, in Bankers Hill — a drive south out of the valley, and it gets you a full private setup with a coach in the room. In-home means no drive at all and a session built around your equipment or your building’s. Plenty of Mission Valley clients do both: studio when the calendar allows, in-home when it does not.
Do you offer in-home personal training in Mission Valley?
Yes. Sessions come to your condo, your house, or the fitness room in your building. That last one matters here, because a lot of valley buildings have a gym with a few machines, some dumbbells, and nobody who knows what to do in it. We build the program around what is in the room. If the setup is thin, we work with bodyweight and whatever can be loaded safely. In-home starts at $300 per visit.
I already use my building’s gym. Why pay for coaching?
Because showing up and training are not the same thing. Most people in a building gym repeat the same circuit at the same weight for years, which is exactly why the body stops changing. Coaching gets you an assessment, a progression, and someone watching the lift so the load can go up without something going wrong. Having the gym downstairs is an advantage, not a substitute — we will use it.
Do you offer one-on-one personal training, or only group sessions?
One-on-one is our primary model. Every session is part of a customized personal training program built for the individual based on your assessment, your goals, and where you are that week. We also offer small-group training (2-4 people, typically family or close-friend pairs) for clients who prefer it.
How long are training sessions?
60 minutes for standard sessions. Initial consultations are 30 minutes — we walk through your goals, your current fitness baseline, your injury history, and whether our methodology is the right fit for you. Most clients book a follow-up assessment session afterward.
I just had surgery and was cleared by my physical therapist. Can you help me get back to full function?
Yes — this is a large part of what we do. Somatic movement education plus progressive strength and conditioning is built to pick up where clinical care ends, once your physical therapist has cleared you. We’ve worked with clients post-ACL reconstruction, post-rotator cuff repair, post-spinal procedures, and post-hip and knee replacements. We coordinate with your surgeon and PT when relevant. Performance Training Center is a performance-training studio, not a medical or physical-therapy clinic. We don’t diagnose, treat, or rehabilitate injuries or medical conditions.
What strength and conditioning principles do you use?
Programs are built on evidence-based exercise science — progressive overload, periodization (linear, undulating, or block depending on your goals), neural-drive development, and biomechanically-precise movement patterning. We follow NSCA-aligned principles and calibrate every loading decision to your training age, neuromuscular capacity, and recovery profile.
Do you take insurance?
We’re a private personal training studio, not a medical clinic. We don’t bill insurance. Sessions are paid out-of-pocket, but we provide FSA/HSA-eligible documentation for sessions related to post-surgical rehabilitation when applicable.
What’s your cancellation policy?
Sessions cancelled with 24 hours’ notice are rescheduled at no charge. Less than 24 hours and the session is forfeit. Packages are non-refundable but transferable to a friend or family member.
How quickly will I see results?
Individual results vary based on ability, program intensity, recovery, and individual adherence. The clients who get the most out of training are honest with us about nutrition, sleep, and life stress — those factors drive the majority of outcomes alongside the training itself.
What does pricing look like?
In-studio sessions are $150 per session — same rate whether you book a single session or a package. In-home training starts at $300 per visit, with the final rate based on neighborhood travel time. Virtual coaching is $350 per month. View full rates.
Are you taking new clients right now?
We accept a limited number of new clients each month to maintain coaching quality. The best first step is the free BMR calculator + 30-minute consultation — that’s how we determine whether you’re a fit for our current openings. Reach out and we’ll let you know what’s available.
